A People’s Hearing on Fracking
June 2, 2012 at the Burchfield Penney Art Center and Buffalo State College
A People’s Hearing on Fracking will give Western New Yorkers a chance to publicly state their views in a way that was denied to this region by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) during the DEC’s Fall 2011 draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement on fracking. The DEC held four public Hearings downstate, but none were held in Western New York (WNY). A People’s Hearing on Fracking will provide WNY the Hearing the DEC should have provided!
A People’s Hearing on Fracking is bringing Buffalo’s amazing artistic and cultural community together with WNY’s hard working environmental community to create a fun, informational, and effective event. This family-friendly day will include children’s crafts, science experiments, and short-term child care, as well as live music and theatrical performances. Featured artists will include David Kane, nimbus dance, Nancy Parisi, Michele Costa, Real Dream Cabaret, and Jim Whitford.
A People’s Hearing on Fracking will deliver a strong message to elected officials and will help further engage and inspire New York State citizens, as well as elected officials, regarding the toxic effects of fracking.
In conjunction with a series of educational workshops, A People’s Hearing on Fracking will also bring national, state, and local groups concerned about fracking together to share information, actively engage our neighbors and elected officials, provide citizens another chance to participate in clean water activism, and give WNY a collective public voice on fracking.
Transcripts and video from A People’s Hearing on Fracking will be delivered to elected officials at all levels of government: local, state, national, and international. Live stream video will immediately carry the proceedings to a world stage.
In the event that permits for horizontal hydraulic fracturing have been issued by June 2, A People’s Hearing on Fracking will provide a timely forum for public response and become a vehicle for organizing the next level of collective defense against this assault on our environment.
Please come and let WNY’s true voice on this life or death issue be heard!
