Pittsburgh, PA 15222

From March 19 – 21, oil and gas industry executives and their wall street investors will convene at the Marcellus Midstream conference in downtown Pittsburgh to make plans for these infrastructure developments. Marcellus Protest is planning a summit of our own for residents and organizations across the region concerned about or impacted by this growing aspect of the industry.

Please download and share the attached flyer.

On March 20th we will gather at Smithfield United Church of Christ (620 Smithfield St, downtown Pittsburgh), march on the convention center, then reconvene at Smithfield Church for dinner, a panel discussion about pipelines and infrastructure, and an organizing strategy session. We are calling on all of our friends and allies to join us and build our movement against all aspects of shale gas development.

Panelists will include:

  • Veronica Coptis

Veronica is a community organizer from Mountain Watershed Association. She has a BA in biology from WVU. Growing up in the coal fields has made her a strong advocate for environmental protection. She will be talking about the environmental impacts of pipeline installations and how citizens can become active in their own communities.

  • Lynda Farrell

Lynda is Executive Director of the Pipeline Safety Coalition in Philadelphia. This coalition was formed to gather and serve as a clearinghouse for factual, unbiased information, increase public awareness and participation through education, build partnerships with residents, safety advocates, government and industry, and improve public, personal and environmental safety in pipeline issues. She will talk about what you need to know about pipeline development; she will explain general pipeline information as well as federal regulations and permits and provide ways for citizens to become active.
